NOV top drive control software mitigates torsional vibration in Eagle Ford
In a recent 13-well program in the Eagle Ford, National Oilwell Varco (NOV) deployed its top drive control software, SoftSpeed II, to mitigate torsional vibration. “Not only did it work every time in every hole section and BHA type we tested, but it worked very quickly,” Andrew Coit, Project Manager with NOV’s Dynamic Drilling Solutions division, said. “It took less than 30 seconds, even in hole depths greater than 12,000 ft, to mitigate torsional vibration.” Mr Coit explains the significance of the 13-well program and the benefits of the technology in this exclusive video from the 2014 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam.
