New ultra-high temperature MWD, RSS make up 200˚C BHA
Schlumberger released two new ultra-high temperature drilling technologies – the TeleScope ICE measurement-while-drilling (MWD) service and the PowerDrive ICE rotary steerable system (RSS) – at the 2015 SPE/IADC Drilling Conference in London on 17 March. Together, the tools make up the industry’s first 200˚C bottomhole assembly (BHA), according to Schlumberger. “We basically have integrated ceramic electronics, as well as multi-chip modules. They are sealed in an inert gas in order to protect them from the high temperature,” Gokhan Yarim, Schlumberger VP Marketing and Technique, said. The products have been tested in areas such as Thailand and the Gulf of Mexico. Watch the video to find out more as Mr Yarim explains these new technologies to DC Editorial Coordinator Alex Endress.
