SPE automation workshop set for July in Vail
SPE’s “Well Construction Automation – Preparing for the Big Jump Forward” workshop, convening 16-18 July in Vail, Colo., will feature lessons learned from other industries and update attendees on the latest automation developments. Further, it will recognize the future applications of such technologies as robotics, machine learning, and autonomous task performance without continuous human guidance within the oil and gas industry, and the speed with which these technologies can be applied.
“The outcome of this workshop could define the future of drilling systems automation,” said John de Wardt, president of de Wardt and Company and co-chair of the workshop’s committee. “People who want to be part of the future who aren’t (at this workshop) are going to miss out.”
Representation is expected to include drilling engineers, industry and academia experts in drilling systems and processes, automation experts and autonomous system experts.
Registration can be found at SPE’s workshop website. The early registration deadline is 14 June.
Sponsors include Integrated Drilling Equipment, Apache, Schlumberger and Omron.
