Robotic manipulators, unique ‘rotary’ table design among additions to Huisman drilling tower
The Huisman Multipurpose Tower, a compact box-type drilling tower that replaces the conventional derrick, has already been proven successful on several deepwater drillships over the past few years. However, the company continues to develop additional capabilities for the tower, Dieter Wijning, Huisman Product Manager-Drilling, said at IADC World Drilling 2015 in Rome on 18 June. Recent innovations include enhanced automation through the addition of multipurpose manipulators, a unique “rotary” table design and the ability to run 150-ft risers. In this video, Mr Wijning speaks with DC Editorial Coordinator Kelli Ainsworth about these new technologies and how they enhance the capabilities of the Multipurpose Tower.
