High-ROP bit development begins with understanding operator goals
Driven by Shell’s goal to increase ROP in the Marcellus, Ulterra developed the FastBack design platform by re-evaluating the way bits are built. The platform aligns the materials, design and manufacturing process to optimize the bit ROP for relatively soft formations. It has been used for 70 bits since initial deployment a year ago. Aron Deen, Development Leader at Ulterra, presented a case study about the design platform at the 2014 IADC/SPE Drilling Technology Conference in Bangkok. In this video, he explains how the platform can be applied to high-ROP applications in the Asia Pacific region.
