IADC Northern Arabian Gulf Chapter hosts quarterly technical meeting, elections
On 24 July, the IADC Northern Arabian Gulf Chapter (NAGC) held its quarterly technical meeting. SANAD hosted the event at the SANAD Training Center in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The meeting included presentations from Canrig and ALTRAD Sparrows, as well as chapter elections.
Ingo Giesel, Director of Key Account Management at Shelf Drilling and outgoing Vice Chairman for the chapter, received an award for his service to the NAGC during the meeting.
UTP Student Chapter holds hands-on learning sessions
The IADC Student Chapter at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) recently hosted three learning sessions and informational courses for students. A Halliburton Landmark Software training course provided students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the well planning software. Students also learned about SLB’s Petrel software, gaining practical training in modeling, simulation, data integration and decision-making processes for reservoir management. Additionally, a representative from Mubadala Energy discussed the critical aspects of plug and abandonment during a session on decommissioning.
IADC handbook aims to help industry address mental health at work
The Health Subcommittee of the IADC Health, Safety, Environment & Training Committee recently published the IADC Mental Health at Work Handbook. This handbook is aimed at providing managers and other frontline workers with a guideline for implementing an effective mental health support program. The handbook’s development came about as the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for more mental health support.

PDEU Student Chapter holds campus visit for IADC reps
On 12 June, the IADC Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) Student Chapter welcomed delegates from IADC headquarters and the IADC South Central Asia Chapter (SCAC). The delegates visited the Student Chapter at the PDEU campus located in Gandhinagar, India. Visiting guests included Mike DuBose, IADC Senior VP of International Development; Arun Karle, IADC SCAC Founding Member; Narender Jindal, IADC SCAC Vice Chairman; and Gurpreet Sara, IADC SCAC Joint Secretary. The guests emphasized the importance of effective communication in the drilling industry, encouraging students to build connections with industry professionals.
Liberian Registry joins IADC as newest flag state member
IADC recently welcomed the Liberian Registry as a member. Established in 1948, the Liberian Registry is the world’s largest maritime flag state organization by total vessel tonnage. It currently accounts for the registration of 17% of the world’s offshore drilling fleet.
With assistance from key International Maritime Organization (IMO) country member partners, such as the Liberian Registry, IADC is able to represent and support international offshore activities that bolster global energy efforts. IADC has retained its non-governmental organization observer status with the IMO since 1975.
Flag states are countries where a company registers its commercial and merchant ships. The state bears the overall responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of international maritime regulations for all ships flying its flag.
Liberia joins Panama and the Marshall Islands as existing IADC flag state members.
