IADC Exemplary Service Award presented to Shell’s Ramalho
John Ramalho, Shell Nigeria well delivery manager – land and shallow water, received an IADC Exemplary Service Award on 20 October in London at the 2010 Drilling Africa Conference in recognition of his leadership and participation in IADC activities. Mr Ramalho has been a cornerstone of the IADC Underbalanced Operations & Managed Pressure Drilling Committee for years, including serving as chairman of the committee’s UBO Standards and Nomenclature Subcommittee. “I am moved by this award. But the success of a committee is not the result on one person’s efforts; rather it is the efforts of the entire committee or subcommittee,” he said.
Mr Ramalho joined Shell as a production technologist upon graduation from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He has over 31 years of experience in various capacities, including production, operations, well servicing and drilling, much of it on sour oil and gas projects in Western Canada. He was assigned to Shell Netherlands in 1996 as the UBD well engineer for the introduction of underbalanced drilling operations in the Dutch offshore sector. In 2001, he joined Shell’s UBD Global Implementation Team as the regional implementation manager for Russia/Central Asia based in Dubai. In 2006 he was appointed UBD principal technical expert for the Shell Group.
He has also served in numerous positions for API, including as task group chairman for API Specification 16RCD and API RP 92U for Underbalanced Drilling Operations. In April 2010 he was transferred to Shell Nigeria and is currently the well delivery manager for land and shallow water based in Port Harcourt.

Congratulations once again Mr. Ramalho. Really glad I was privileged to be at the award in London. Didn’t realize at the time how instrumental you will become in establishing the Nigeria Chapter of IADC. Thank you for all the support you gave me while I served at Secretary. We look forward to your continued participation and contributions as we work towards making the Chapter a relevant association in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry.
