H&P: Advanced drilling automation delivering better consistency, results in Permian
Autonomous directional drilling is not a new concept, but it requires two tasks to be automated: determine the start/stop depths of required slides and execute decisions while reacting to variations in parameter. Automated sliding is now helping the industry to achieve this, said Trey Adams, Vice President Operations for Helmerich & Payne IDC, at the 2019 IADC World Drilling Conference in Milan on 20 June. Not only does it provide automated and optimized slide execution with no human dependency, but it also searches for optimal parameters in real time to increase ROP and accuracy. Watch DC’s video with Mr Adams to learn about how H&P is deploying advanced drilling automation technologies in the Permian to improve consistency and performance, as well as key considerations in terms of automation’s impact on humans.
