Joint SPE/ICoTA Conference to showcase impact of data and latest technologies for well interventions
Digitalization and innovation are just a few of the key focus areas of this year’s SPE/ICoTA Well Intervention Conference and Exhibition, taking place 26-27 March in The Woodlands, Texas. According to Matt Billingham and Ron Zbitowsky, Conference Chair and Vice Chair, this event has something for everyone.
Hosted jointly by SPE and the Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA), the conference includes more than 60 peer-selected technical presentations of interest to E&P professionals.
“Attendees will walk away with valuable knowledge and skills to advance their business goals and support their professional development, from automated wireline milling in the intervention solutions session to vertical seismic profiling in the new data enhanced interventions session,” Mr Zbitowsky said. According to Mr Billingham, “There are multiple discrete technologies that have arrived, each having their own benefit, but absolutely the impact of data and digitization is becoming more and more felt.”
The committee decided to create a specific technical session on “Data Enhanced Interventions and Diagnostics” for this reason. Recent innovations, along with new ideas and equipment, will be presented in the technical sessions. Mr Zbitowsky also believes digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, analytics and robotics, will continue playing an important role.
The committee has also updated the name of the conference to align with the industry’s broader focus on well intervention.
“Technological advancements in other types of well intervention are now providing additional tools in our well intervention toolbox,” Mr Zbitowsky said. “Coiled tubing remains one of those tools, along with an increasing number of others.”
Mr Billingham and Mr Zbitowsky hope the name change will open the conference up to a wider audience and increase collaboration and knowledge sharing. A move away from conveyance-specific solutions to a more challenge-focused format will mean delegates will find papers of value in all the sessions. Along with the technical papers, attendees can also learn from a special keynote presentation with Anchala Klein from BP. Ms Klein will provide her insights on designing wells for interventions and their efficiency.
