Industry pushes crew competency through training rigs, simulated environments
Drilling contractors are increasingly using applied training environments to deepen competency and better develop high-reliability organizations. At Precision Drilling, for example, a fully functional drilling rig has been dedicated to providing crews with hands-on training in ways that traditional classroom-based training can’t. The onshore drilling industry is also looking toward simulation-based training, where entire crews can be brought together not to just “drill wells on paper” but to “drill wells on simulator.” In this video from the 2016 IADC Drilling Onshore Conference on 19 May in Houston, Deric Simmons, Precision Gobal Director of Field Training and Development, and Bob Newhouse, President of Newhouse Consultants, discuss their perspectives on making the most of hands-on interactive training.
