Maersk Training: Worker skills must keep pace with technology advances
As drilling technology advances enable more complex wells to be drilled, training needs to be updated not only to allow employee skills to keep up with technology advances but also to prevent tragedies such as Macondo, said Carla Fontenot, Managing Director for Maersk Training Houston, at an IADC workshop on well control and crew resource management (CRM), held on 18 May in Houston. To close knowledge gaps, Maersk and other companies have worked with IADC to develop the WellSharp Plus accreditation program, which incorporates CRM and simulations of real-life scenarios to train both operators and drilling contractors. Early results show the course not only can make drilling safer but also allow for more efficient drilling, Ms Fontenot told DC in this video. Watch for more details.
