Competency management for safety-critical roles key to reducing major drilling incidents
When competencies are not appropriately identified and assigned to safety-critical roles, the probability of human error increases. Increased human error has been shown to be a direct precursor to major incidents that happen during drilling operations. To reduce human error and to ensure safety-critical personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct their jobs, organizations need to develop and validate a comprehensive competency management system for these roles, according to Luis De La Fuente, Global Training Manager for Lloyd’s Register.
