People and companies roundup: Rowan, Diamond Offshore and Schlumberger
Rowan Companies, Diamond Offshore and Schlumberger recently announced executive and board appointments.
Rowan Companies appointed Thomas Burke as chief operating officer and Melanie Trent as senior vice president, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary. Mr Burke had served as president and chief executive officer of Rowan’s manufacturing subsidiary, LeTourneau Technologies, which was sold to Joy Global in June. Previously, he was division president and vice president corporate development for Complete Production Services and held various positions with Schlumberger and McKinsey & Company.
Ms Trent had served as vice president and corporate secretary, assisting in Rowan’s securities, corporate governance and transactional legal work.
Diamond Offshore named Clifford Sobel to the Board of Directors. Mr Sobel served as US Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2001 to 2005 and US Ambassador to Brazil from July 2006 to August 2009. He is presently the managing partner of Valor Capital Group in Brazil.
Schlumberger announced that Paal Kibsgaard has succeeded Andrew Gould as chief executive officer. Mr Gould will continue to serve as chairman of the board until the annual general meeting in April 2012. Mr Kibsgaard was previously chief operating officer of Schlumberger. Prior to his appointment as chief operating officer, he served as president of the company’s Reservoir Characterization Group.
