IADC endorses 2012 IPTC in Beijing

The sixth edition of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), endorsed by IADC, will be held 5-7 December 2012 at the China World Exhibition Hall in Beijing, China. This will be the first IPTC held in China and will be co-hosted by China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) and ExxonMobil.

More than 5,000 participants from around the globe are expected to attend, and a technical exhibition will cover more than 3,300 square meters. New to the IPTC venue will be “Country Pavilions,” a showcase of technologies and innovations from various countries, and “Unconventional Resources Pavilions,” a highlight of state-of-the-art technologies and processes related to specific technical subjects, such as coal seam gas and carbon capture and sequestration.

The 2011 IPTC, with the conference theme “Technology and Operational Excellence: Keys to Sustainable Global Energy,” will be held 15-17 November 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand, and is hosted by Thailand’s national oil company, PTT Exploration & Production. Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will officiate the opening ceremony and deliver the keynote address, and the country’s Minister of Energy also will take part in the opening ceremony. Other industry leaders have confirmed their participation, including Yves-Louis Darricarrere, president of exploration and production for Total; Zhou Jiping, vice president of CNPC and vice chairman and president of PetroChina; Mark Sikkel, vice president of Asia Pacific for ExxonMobil Exploration; and Gerald Schotman, chief technology officer of the Shell Group.

More than 430 technical papers representing 145 organizations and 48 countries are expected to be presented in 60 technical sessions and will cover the categories of exploration, reservoir, drilling and completions, production and development, overarching industry issues, and mid-stream gas. The program will include four panel sessions:

• Unlocking unconventional resources — keys to success: technology, costs, opportunity and global adoption;
• Technology development and innovation;
• Operational excellence: people, processes and technology; and
• Deepwater challenges — Gulf of Mexico’s long-term impact and how can the industry move forward.

More than 3,000 participants from around the globe are expected to attend the 2011 IPTC. IPTC is a collaborative effort among the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
