Drydocks World: Largest CJ80 jackup to be built for North Sea
Drydocks World (DDW) and Drill One Capital have signed an agreement to build the Dubai Expo 2020 NS mega jackup designed by Gusto MSC. The rig will be built to operate in harsh environments in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea at a maximum water depth of 574 ft (175 meters).
According to Drydocks, the CJ80 jackup will be the largest rig ever built and the first of its design.
“Today we have entered into the next stage of technology and design by building a green rig, which takes the oil industry to a new level. It is a demonstration of DDW capability to build the world’s first mega projects as we demonstrated in previous projects… We seek to develop our capabilities in building highly specialized units for the offshore oil & gas sectors and are gearing up for more innovative and technology-intensive projects that would serve the emerging needs of the energy sector,” said His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World.
The 101-by-110-meter, 5,500-sq-meter unit will meet all rules and regulations in the Norwegian and the UK sectors of the North Sea and will be able to drill to a depth of 40,000 ft. The rig includes up to 30% less fuel consumption with the use of fuel-efficient technology and generates fresh water using waste heat from engine cooling. It is designed to accommodate 160 people and will be equipped with four high-pressure, 7,000-psi mud pumps.
