Coiled-tubing frac sleeve with collet locating system improve BHA placement in extended-reach laterals

Coiled-tubing frac sleeve systems are gaining popularity due to their ability to deliver stimulation treatments to a large number of stages in extended-reach laterals. However, many of these systems rely on depth correlation for bottomhole assembly (BHA) placement, which can be imprecise. As a result, these systems often cannot accurately locate sleeves once they’re installed downhole. In response to this challenge, Baker Hughes, a GE company, developed the Blitz coiled-tubing frac sleeve system, which was launched at the 2018 SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference in The Woodlands, Texas. In this video from the conference on 23 January, Scott Sanchez, Product Line Manager-Unconventional Multistage Completion Systems, explains how the Blitz’s collet locating system enables more accurate BHA placement. He also discusses the results BHGE saw when the system was deployed for an operator in Alberta, Canada.
