In Memoriam: Ron Sweatman
Ron Sweatman, owner and manager of RS Consulting, passed away on 30 March 2018. Mr Sweatman is survived by his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren.
Mr Sweatman joined BJ Services Co as a District Engineer for the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Coast region, where he worked for 17 years. He then pursued a start-up company, Western Co, in 1990 to manage offshore hydraulic fracturing and cementing operations in the North Sea and Europe. By 1995, he had joined Halliburton as a Cementing Technical Analyst for the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Coast. Eventually, he was promoted to the role of Chief Technical Professional.
Overall, Mr Sweatman spent 55 years in the oil and gas industry in the areas of engineering, operations, management and corporate strategy. He has penned over 100 technical papers and holds 44 technology patents in the areas of well cementing, drilling fluids and geothermal energy.
Mr Sweatman was very active with IADC. He was a member of the IADC Technical Publications Committee, and authored “Well Cementing Operations,” published by IADC in 2015. He was inducted into the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) Hall of Fame on 12 April 2016.
