Rapid-S53 advances well control equipment design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance
The Rapid-S53 JIP, Reliability and Performance Information Database for Well Control Equipment covered under API S53, continues to evolve with a focus on data quality. The database is now in its third iteration, with 13 drilling contractors, 12 operators and three OEMs, said Frank Gallander, Industry Interface Consultant at Chevron and Chairman of the Rapid-S53 Oversight Committee. More than 7,900 event reports are in the database. In this video from the 2019 IADC Well Control Conference of the Americas in Galveston, Texas, on 27 August, Mr Gallander provides an overview of the ongoing project, the role of the Technical Reference Group, and the JIP’s relationship with the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
