Plaisance: Well Control Institute evaluating priority topics
The Well Control Institute (WCI) Board of Directors convened on 11 November in New Orleans. Moe Plaisance, who recently retired from Diamond Offshore Drilling, has agreed to serve as WCI Chairman, while Steve Kropla, IADC Vice President – Offshore Division, will serve as Secretary General. In this exclusive video, Mr Plaisance describes how leaders – CEOs, COOs, presidents and senior VPs – of drilling contractors, operators and service companies are taking an active interest in WCI. “We have to remember that we have a social license, and society really impacts how we proceed,” he said. “We recognize that we need to improve what we do.”
From an initial list of 40 well control topics that have a strong impact on the drilling business, the WCI has consolidated it to 10 priority topics ranging from BOP reliability to human factors. Mr Plaisance said the WCI will be working in the coming weeks to further narrow that list to three or four topics that will be addressed immediately.
