The UK’s primary energy mix has seen the almost-complete phase-out of coal as of last year, replaced by natural gas. Meanwhile, the share of natural gas has grown from 23% in 1990 to 36% in 2024. The combined share of fossil fuels in primary energy is currently at approximately 75%, and DNV forecasts that number to fall to approximately 34% by mid-century.
