Low-carbon future will require industry buy-in, technology enablers
With oil and gas expected to remain a significant part of the global energy mix in the coming decades, realizing a low-carbon future will require this industry to develop innovative systems and generate buy-in from all levels of the value chain, said Tom Horton, VP of Business Development and Contracts at Ensign Energy Services. In this interview with DC from the 2022 IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference in Galveston, Texas, on 10 March, Mr Horton spoke about the challenges contractors face in implementing low-carbon drilling solutions, as well as the role technology can play in helping the industry reduce its emissions footprint.
Mr Horton, who spoke at a panel discussion focused on the energy transition at the conference, also discussed how some companies are looking toward “responsibly sourced gas” as a way to help with sustainability efforts.
