Ecuador to carry out offshore operations with jackup platform

EP Petroecuador and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a specialized contract for offshore well workovers using a jackup rig, with the goal of substantially increasing domestic natural gas production in the Amistad field. This historic event will mark the return of this type of operation to the country’s only offshore base after more than a decade.

Exploration and Production Manager Andrés González stated that, following the $78 million contract signed between the two parties, the mobilization of the jackup rig from China will begin in the coming days, allowing workover to start on four wells in October.

Currently, the Amistad Field produces nearly 20 million cu ft of natural gas per day. With the work to be done, production is estimated to exceed 40 million cu ft per day.

In this same block, EP Petroecuador has been carrying out workovers on shut-in wells since early August, which will add up to 5 million cu ft per day to production before the jackup platform comes online.
