Eni/PETRONAS venture Searah starts gas from Maha

Searah, the 50-50 joint venture of Eni and PETRONAS, started gas production from the Maha field in the Kutei Basin offshore Indonesia, 21 months after the final investment decision. The field lies in the West Ganal block in about 1,000 m of water. Its two subsea production wells are tied to the existing Jangkrik floating production unit (FPU) through about 12 km of flowlines.

Maha can produce 250 mcf/d, lifting combined output from the Jangkrik FPU and the South Hub to a plateau of 750 mcf/d. After initial processing on the FPU, the gas will move through the pipeline network to the domestic market and the Bontang LNG plant. The Gendalo and Gendang project is expected to start up and tie in to the FPU in 2028, extending the plateau beyond the end of the decade.

Maha is part of the South Hub development and follows the Merakes East startup in May 2025 and the March 2026 final investment decisions on the North Hub (Geng North and Gehem) and South Hub projects. Searah was established in June 2026 and holds 19 gas producing and development assets, 14 in Indonesia and five in Malaysia.
