Electromagnetic signals bolster new look-ahead-while-drilling service
A new look-ahead-while-drilling service called IriSphere is combining directional measurements with advanced automated inversion to detect formation features ahead of the bit, by using multifrequency transmitter and multireceiver directional subs. According to Irlan Amir, Vice President of Marketing and Technology, Drilling and Measurements for Schlumberger, the technology uses electromagnetic signals that are sent from the transmitter into the formation and retrieved by receivers to enable the look-ahead sensitivity and resistivity profiles. In this video with DC from the 2019 OTC, Mr Amir also talks about high-potential applications and benefits for the technology, as well as results achieved in a recent deployment offshore Australia.
