Chevron finds additional gas pay at Nargis offshore Egypt

Chevron’s Nargis-2 appraisal well in the Egyptian Mediterranean encountered up to 35 m of net gas pay, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The results confirm that the gas-bearing reservoirs found in the Nargis-1 well extend further and add a new gas-bearing interval with good reservoir properties.

The well started in May with the drillship Stena Forth and reached a total depth of more than 5,000 m. It was drilled to appraise extensions of the 2022 Nargis discovery and to test deeper intervals, including high-pressure, high-temperature formations.

Chevron operates the Nargis Offshore concession with Eni, Mubadala Energy and Tharwa Petroleum, in cooperation with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). The ministry said the results support further technical studies to determine the discovery’s overall potential and assess development options.
