Application of modern technologies can reduce DROPS incidents
Procedures and programs for DROPS safety have helped reduce incidents over the years, but paper-based procedures can only go so far, Gareth Burrows, Global Business Development Director for OES Asset Integrity Management, said in a presentation at the 2018 IADC HSE&T Conference in Houston. Technology, including tablet-based DROPS systems, eLearning training and drones, can help the industry to further reduce DROPS incidents. In this video from the conference on 7 February, Mr Burrows discusses the limitations of paper-based systems that can be overcome by the use of tablet-based systems. He also explains how eLearning, which is more dynamic and flexible than in-person training, can help reduce dynamic drops. Further, he outlines the pros and cons of using drones to inspect potential DROPS hazards.
