Ovintiv adds 240 drilling locations in Permian, Montney land push

Ovintiv added 240 net 10,000-ft equivalent drilling locations to its inventory in the Permian and Montney basins through more than 60 separate transactions completed year-to-date, the company said 26 August 2026. The deals, part of Ovintiv’s 2026 “ground game” acquisition program, brought in approximately 41,000 net acres for a combined cost of about $460 million.

In the Permian Basin, Ovintiv added roughly 21,000 net acres and 120 well locations, split between 80 base locations and 40 upside locations, in the Midland Basin for about $230 million. In the Montney, the company added approximately 20,000 net acres and 120 well locations, comprising 110 base locations and 10 upside locations, in the liquids-rich Alberta oil window for a similar $230 million outlay.

With these additions, Ovintiv will have added approximately 500 net drilling locations year-to-date, including 260 locations gained through organic inventory enhancement. The company expects its remaining pending transactions to close before the end of the year.
