Eni plans 30 exploration, 200 development wells in Egypt
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi outlined plans to drill 30 exploration wells and 200 development wells across Egypt during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in New Alamein on 25 August 2026. The drilling program will focus on the Mediterranean and Western Desert, with exploration and development activity extending into 2026 and 2027 across Eni-operated concessions, including the Zohr field.
Descalzi said Eni’s total investments in Egypt have reached $8.5 billion, with the company producing approximately 242,000 boed in 2025 through its subsidiary IEOC. The company plans to apply advanced seismic surveying technologies and artificial intelligence to boost natural gas and crude oil production as part of the expanded campaign.
The upcoming drilling activity builds on Eni’s offshore Mediterranean exploration campaign launched in October 2025, which yielded the Denise West discovery in the Temsah concession in April 2026. Eni is working with partner BP and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation to reach a final investment decision on Denise West in the coming months.
