Rig-based intervention restores production at Karoon’s Baúna field offshore Brazil

Karoon Energy returned its SPS-92 well at the Baúna Project offshore Brazil to production following a rig-based well intervention to replace a failed electrical submersible pump (ESP). The well, which had been producing at a reduced rate of roughly 4,500 bopd after a partial ESP failure in August 2025, is now flowing at approximately 8,600 bopd, lifting total Baúna Project output to around 20,500 bopd ahead of natural decline.
Karoon expects a further 1,000 to 2,000 bopd once the PRA-2 well comes back online; work to reconnect its umbilical is underway.
Final intervention costs on SPS-92 exceeded the company’s original estimate, driven by weather-related downtime, wellbore debris and equipment-related non-productive time during execution. Karoon said the added cost did not affect the successful restoration of production.
