The US rig count hit 946 this week, according to the Baker Hughes weekly rig count, with 929 rigs drilling on land and 16 drilling offshore.
Of the total, 765 rigs are drilling for oil and 181 for natural gas.
One year ago, the total US rig count stood at 729.
