Two OTC educational events on one great day
Energy Education Institute – Teacher workshop
OTC will invite 100 Houston-area classroom teachers (grades 4-12) to attend a free one-day, energy education workshop. Educators will receive comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and its importance, while discovering the world of oil and natural gas exploration and production. Activities will include a keynote presentation, tour of state-of-the-art technology exhibits and hands-on classroom activities with age-appropriate energy curriculum, provided by the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED). A variety of free instructional materials will be available to take back to the classroom.
High School Student Workshop
OTC is educating the next generation of aspiring engineers, scientists, and managers about the oil and gas industry. Approximately 200 high school students will see first-hand the exciting opportunities the oil and gas industry can offer. The program has been expanded for this year to include a scavenger hunt of the technology exhibits and hands-on energy lessons provided by NEED. Students will again have the opportunity to meet industry professionals and ask questions about possible careers in the oil and gas industry.
How Sponsoring Societies Can Contribute
- This year, teachers will receive a handout summarizing the educational resources that OTC sponsoring societies offer. Please provide a brief description and web address of your society’s educational outreach program. This will also be used on a looped slideshow presentation during workshop breaks to promote your program.
- If you would like to provide giveaways for either workshop, please ship them directly to your booth. We will arrange to have them moved to the workshop location(s) the evening prior to the workshops. Alternate shipping instructions are available if your society does not have a booth.
Please send your program summary and plans for giveaways to Darci Ramirez at dramirez@otcnet.org.
We look forward to working with you on making this another successful education day at OTC!
