Natural gas drilling, fracturing moves industry toward self-sustainability

In the next three to five years, 50% to 75% of frac pumps in North America will be powered by natural gas, David Gallagher, VP of production enhancement for Baker Hughes, said. “Today, we’re in single-digit numbers,” he said. At the 2013 ATCE in New Orleans, La., last week, Baker Hughes displayed its Rhino Bifuel truck, which can achieve a 70/30 natural gas-to-diesel blend in its fracturing operations. Mr Gallagher speaks with Drilling Contractor associate editor Joanne Liou in this exclusive video about the growing prevalence of natural gas utilization in the drilling industry.
