Invictus locks in November spud for Musuma-1 in Zimbabwe
Invictus Energy executed a Deed of Variation to its drilling contract with Exalo Drilling, securing Exalo Rig 202 to drill the Musuma-1 exploration well at the Cabora Bassa Project in Zimbabwe. The revised contract, along with agreed rig preparation and well services mobilization work scopes, allowed the company to confirm a spud date of November 2026.
Following completion of the rig inspection and finalization of the maintenance scope, Exalo will begin an operational readiness campaign ahead of moving the rig from the Mukuyu area to the Musuma-1 wellsite. Exalo personnel are set to work alongside the Invictus and Geo Associates drilling teams throughout preparation and mobilization.
Separately, procurement of the remaining well services for the campaign was largely complete, with contracts being prepared for award, while construction of the Musuma-1 wellpad and associated civil works is scheduled to begin the following week after customary cultural ceremonies with local traditional leaders and communities.
Musuma-1 targeted an estimated gross mean unrisked prospective resource of 1.2 Tcf of gas and 73 million barrels of condensate, making it one of the largest undrilled conventional exploration opportunities in the Cabora Bassa Basin. The well marked the first high-impact exploration target to be drilled outside the Mukuyu gas-condensate discovery area, testing a new play type identified through the company’s CB23 seismic survey.
