PetroTal restarts drilling at Peru’s Bretaña field ahead of schedule

PetroTal spudded the 25H horizontal development well at the Bretaña field in Peru’s Block 95 on 21 September, restarting development drilling at the field about one week ahead of schedule. It is the first new well drilled at Bretaña since January 2025.

Well 25H is the 20th horizontal well PetroTal has drilled at Bretaña and the first to use the higher-specification Estrella 2027 drilling rig. The well will be drilled to a measured depth of approximately 4,300 m, targeting the producing Vivian formation at a vertical depth of about 2,700 m. Drilling and completion are expected to take approximately eight weeks. PetroTal has 22 drilling locations remaining at the field.

Separately, stimulation work on two water injection wells, completed on 3 September, raised Bretaña’s water injection capacity to just over 190,000 barrels per day.
