The global oil and gas industry remains a male-dominated business, although more companies are beginning to recognize the value in actively recruiting and promoting women, resulting in a more diverse workforce. Challenges remain, however, in attracting women – especially younger women – into the STEM fields. Women who enter this industry also continue to face unique challenges, both out in the field and in the office. These issues were discussed at the 2016 IADC World Drilling Conference in Lisbon on 16 June. DC caught up with two of the panelists – Lydia Brantley, Manager of Investor Relations at National Oilwell Varco, and Marta LaFuente, Product Champion at Vallourec Drilling Products – for a discussion of what companies can do to advance gender diversity in this industry.
