At the start of 2012, IADC set out an ambitious three-year tactical plan to prepare and deliver key initiatives and programs in response to rapidly growing and changing industry requirements. I can report that at the conclusion of 2014, we have accomplished our stated goals, thereby completing Stage 1 of our two-part journey toward transforming IADC into a sustained high-performance organization. Principal among our many achievements has been bringing together all parties within the drilling industry to work collaboratively to develop solutions to critical needs.

But our work is really just beginning.  Our industry’s needs for improved safety, efficiency and human competency continue to grow, and IADC is stepping up to meet these demands.

We have restated both IADC’s vision for “the drilling industry to be recognized for its vital role in the global economy and its high standards of safety, environmental stewardship and operational efficiency,” as well as our mission of “catalyzing improved performance.” Key to IADC’s mission are five core elements of drilling industry performance: eliminating injuries, enhancing process safety, reducing nonproductive time, improving equipment reliability and increasing efficiency.

In response to stakeholders’ expectations, IADC is stepping up our role as the authoritative body in the drilling space. We define this as meeting the requirements of the industry, regulators and the public to be the go-to authoritative body for all drilling-related activities. Defining and fulfilling its role as the authoritative body for the drilling industry is the goal that drives our future activities and initiatives. It lies at the heart of IADC’s tactical plan for the next three years.

Attaining this goal requires a deep commitment to doing the right things well. We will achieve this by vigorously pursuing four strategic strands: giving leadership to drilling’s core functions; providing good stewardship of the industry’s core values; influencing government thinking to inform government policy-making; and advocating for better regulation to secure more effective oversight by regulators.

This work has already begun, as new and substantially upgraded major programs are improving our reach and impact. We are raising the stock of IADC and drilling contractors worldwide through initiatives that focus on improving the competency and capability of our workforce. Our outstanding conferencing, credentialing and communications teams bring these to you. Advocacy and focused intervention with policymakers and regulators in both the US and internationally has helped grow IADC’s footprint. Our operational teams and international representatives provide both technical and strategic input to ongoing committee standards work and initiatives.

These efforts increase the value we offer to our member companies. Building on our successes in 2014, the 2015 activity calendar promises an exciting line-up of new products and initiatives aimed at maximizing value for our members. Key deliverables in the next year will include the initiation of chapters in new geographies, introduction of new accreditation programs, consolidation of committees, establishment of new advisory panels and conferences, and delivery of the IADC Drilling Manual and Deepwater Well Control Guidelines, among others.

IADC provides our industry with the opportunity and capability to connect, collaborate and create the next generation of solutions to critical industry needs. Your active participation in IADC’s chapters, committees and conferences ensures that your voice is heard, and that your ambitions and expertise shape the industry’s future and improve its performance. The voice and actions of the collective industry are made more effective through IADC.

We are a dynamic organization for a rapidly growing, changing and vital industry. The past three years have shown we are better together. Join us on the future journey.
