Indonesia Energy discovers oil at K-29 well in Sumatra
Indonesia Energy discovered good quality oil during testing operations at its newly drilled K-29 well at the Kruh Block on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, the company said 2 September 2026. K-29 was spud 25 July 2026 and reached a total depth of 3,378 ft.
Production operations at K-29 are expected to begin within the next couple weeks. The perforation gun used at the well, run against Pertamina-approved perforation targets, was naturally bleeding oil, a result the company had not seen at previous Kruh Block wells and one that could allow the well to begin natural production without a fracturing procedure. IEC said the well was drilled without lost time injury or other environmental, health or safety incidents.
The rig that drilled K-29 has since mobilized to the WK-5 wellsite, the next well planned under IEC’s 2026 drilling program at the Kruh Block, an approximately 63,000-acre onshore asset.
