GE works to bring power of industrial internet to rig sites

The ability for drilling companies to track operational and asset integrity through remote monitoring and cloud-based data aggregation could vastly cut down on unplanned downtime. To explore these possibilities, GE Automation and Controls is collaborating with Global Drilling Support on a new project in the Marcellus to improve remote monitoring of top drives. In this video, GE Automation and Controls General Manger Jim Walsh explains what the results of this project could mean for the future of remote monitoring of drilling assets. “We are providing these guys with a lot of visibility into their assets that they never would have had before without making a really significant capital investment to get there,” he said.
