Deepsea Nordkapp gets go-ahead for Øst Frigg production wells

Norwegian authorities cleared Aker BP to use Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Nordkapp semisubmersible for production drilling at the Øst Frigg field in the North Sea. The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) granted the consent on 17 August 2026, covering the drilling and completion of four production wells.
The wells form part of the Øst Frigg tie-back project within the Yggdrasil area, spanning production licenses 873 and 442. Øst Frigg sits 4 km east of the Frigg field in 100 m of water. The field was discovered in 1973 and produced gas from 1988 to 1997 before its subsea templates were removed in 2001. It is being redeveloped as part of the Hugin development in the Yggdrasil area.
The Deepsea Nordkapp is a sixth-generation semisubmersible that has worked with Aker BP on the Norwegian Continental Shelf since its delivery in 2019.
