COSL Innovator drills gas/condensate discovery in North Sea
Equinor and partner Aker BP discovered gas/condensate in the North Sea’s Linga prospect. Exploration well 25/7-13 was drilled in production license 782 S, 16 km northwest of the Balder field and 205 km west of Stavanger.
Preliminary estimates put the discovery at between 0.1 and 2.1 million standard cu m of recoverable oil equivalent. The well targeted reservoir rocks from the Late Jurassic in the Draupne Formation and encountered gas/condensate in separate sandstone layers with a combined thickness of 13 m. The sandstone was of moderate reservoir quality.
Well 25/7-13 reached a vertical depth of 4,606 m and was terminated in the Heather Formation. It was not formation-tested, though cores and hydrocarbon samples were collected. Water depth at the site is 126 m, and the well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
This is the third well drilled in production license 782 S, which was awarded in 2015 under APA 2014. The licensees are reviewing results from this and prior wells to assess further prospectivity in the license.
The COSL Innovator, which drilled the well, is now moving to production license 50 HS in the northern North Sea, where it will drill wildcat well 34/10-56 S, also operated by Equinor.
