BW Energy finds oil in both Dussafu appraisal wells, adds fast-track producer

BW Energy encountered oil in both appraisal wells drilled on the Dussafu license offshore Gabon, with combined recovery estimated at about 8-9 million barrels of oil gross. The 10P2 well hit a 30-m oil column in the Gamba reservoir at a structural depth consistent with pre-drill predictions, and the 10P1 well found a 16-m oil column in a separate accumulation. Formation evaluation confirmed good reservoir quality in both wells, and moveable oil at 10P1.

Wireline logging and pressure testing at 10P2 indicate a production well there can deliver initial rates above 5,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) gross, with base case incremental recovery estimated at 6 million barrels gross. That well will be drilled from the existing MaBoMo facility as a fifth well in the MaBoMo Phase 2 campaign. The 10P1 results support a further production well, with timing to be set against the overall Dussafu drilling schedule, including Bourdon Phase 1.

The drilling rig is now headed to MaBoMo, where BW Energy will first replace the electrical submersible pump on one of the existing Hibiscus wells, then drill four Phase 2 production wells. Each well is expected to produce about 5,000 bopd gross initially, with Phase 2 adding up to 20,000 bopd gross at peak and first oil on track for the first quarter of 2027.

An infill well on the Tortue field and the Bourdon Phase 1 development will follow, with Bourdon first oil planned for the first quarter of 2028. BW Energy operates Dussafu with a 73.5% working interest, and partners are Panoro Energy with 17.5% and Gabon Oil Company with 9%.
