Anadarko to drill first Peru offshore well in 2027

Anadarko Peru, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, informed Peru’s state hydrocarbons agency Perupetro that it will advance to the third exploration period for its offshore Trujillo Basin blocks, a phase that includes drilling its first exploration well in Block Z-62 in 2027. Anadarko operates Blocks Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63, located in water depths ranging from 100 to 2,400 m off the coasts of La Libertad and Lambayeque.
The decision follows a 3D marine seismic survey covering 6,018 sq km completed in 2024, the largest such campaign conducted along Peru’s Pacific coast. The survey, which cost approximately $40 million, identified geological structures considered prospective for hydrocarbons.
Chevron holds a 35% interest in the blocks and Westlawn holds 30%, with Anadarko retaining the remaining interest as operator, following license amendments approved in 2025.
