DC survey: 53% don't believe in climate change

It was a close race, but a slightly greater percentage of you believe that climate change is a hoax (53%) rather than likely or true (47%), according to a reader survey on DrillingContractor.org.
A total of 259 participants responded to our question: “Do you believe in climate change and that human activities are affecting the climate of the Earth?” Readers were also asked to identify themselves by region of the world.

A majority of North American readers disbelieve in human-caused climate change,
with 27% calling it unlikely and 42% saying it’s absolutely not happening.

Of the total respondents, roughly a third believed that climate change absolutely is not happening, that the Earth is simply going through natural warming/cooling cycles. An additional 20% believed that climate change is “unlikely.”

On the other side of the fence, approximately 26% of respondents believed that scientific facts have undeniably proven that climate change is happening. An additional 21% believed that it is “likely,” with strong evidence to support it.

Interestingly, of readers from North America (United States, Canada and Mexico), approximately 68% believed that climate change is either fictitious or unlikely. By contrast, an overwhelming 81% of European readers believed that climate change is either definitely happening or likely.

In Asia/Australia, 68% of respondents said climate change is happening or likely and 32% said the opposite. In Latin America, only one out of 12 respondents denied climate change, while 11 believed in it.
