SLB to extend leak detection system across Johan Sverdrup Phase 3

Equinor awarded SLB a contract to expand real-time leak detection, virtual flow metering and digital production monitoring across the Johan Sverdrup Phase 3 development in the North Sea.

The award extends monitoring coverage to new subsea infrastructure at Johan Sverdrup, one of Equinor’s most strategically significant producing assets on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. It builds on the Olga Online production management system already deployed during the field’s Phase 2 development, where it supported leak detection and real time production surveillance across the production network.

The Olga Online system combines first principles multiphase flow modeling with real time analytics to support early leak detection, virtual flow metering and continuous production surveillance. The contract extends the companies’ collaboration on Johan Sverdrup as the production network expands to include new subsea templates and multiphase flowlines tied to Phase 3.

Phase 3 will tie two new subsea templates in the Kvitsøy and Avaldsnes areas back to existing infrastructure, expanding the multiphase production network that Olga Online will monitor. Production from the new templates is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.
