RH Petrogas well test flows gas, condensate and oil in Papua

RH Petrogas confirmed strong gas and condensate deliverability, along with an unexpected oil discovery, from well testing at the Northwest Klagagi-1 (NWK-1) well in the Kepala Burung production sharing contract in Southwest Papua, Indonesia.

The well was drilled by the company’s 82.65%-owned subsidiary Petrogas (Basin) and was designed to both develop known gas and condensate resources in the Upper Kais Formation and explore deeper potential in the Lower Kais, Sirga and Devonian basement formations.

Two drill stem tests in the Upper Kais development zone showed strong deliverability. In the lower interval, a multi-rate flow test produced approximately 1.6-2.7 MMscf/d of gas and 40-109 bpd of oil, with water production of 90-363 bpd across the tested choke conditions, indicating a gas cap with an underlying oil rim that RH Petrogas had considered unlikely in its original well prognosis. In the upper gas-bearing interval, a six-hour flow test at a 20/64-inch choke produced approximately 4.2 MMscf/d of gas and 192 bpd of condensate with 20 bpd of water, while a subsequent step-up test achieved 6.16 MMscf/d at a 26/64-inch choke.

The deeper Lower Kais interval showed hydrocarbon indications while drilling but recovered only formation water on test, and the exploration zone has since been plugged and abandoned at a net cost of approximately $4.5 million, which RH Petrogas will expense in the current financial year. No hydrocarbons were found in the underlying Sirga Formation or Devonian basement. RH Petrogas said it will carry out further reservoir evaluation to determine a development strategy for the Northwest Klagagi field.
