Southern Energy begins drilling at Williamsburg field

Southern Energy spudded the Terrible Creek 21-2 #2 Cotton Valley test well in the Williamsburg field in Mississippi on 11 August 2026. The well is the first of two farm-out commitment wells planned for drilling this year under a joint venture wellbore participation agreement announced in May 2026, with Southern holding a 50% working interest.

The company expects to drill the well to a planned total depth of approximately 19,000 ft. Completion and testing operations are expected to begin once the drilling rig has been moved off site.

Ian Atkinson, president and CEO of Southern, said the well marks a step in evaluating high-impact prospective targets at Williamsburg following successful offset drilling by competitors near the company’s acreage.
