Increased focus on land BOPs among changes to 5th edition of API-S53
The fifth edition of API-S53, launched in December 2018, features an increased focus on land BOP systems and acknowledges differences for land versus surface offshore requirements. The fifth edition also includes other changes, such as shifting BOP requirements to be driven by the MASP of the well and not the rated working pressures of available equipment, said Ricky Cummings, Chairman of API S53 and Senior Advisor – Global SSWI – Subsea Well Control Systems at Chevron. In this video from the 2019 IADC Well Control Conference of the Americas in Galveston, Texas, on 27 August, Mr Cummings provides an overview of fifth edition changes. He also calls for volunteers to join the work that is already starting on drafting the sixth edition of the document. Interested parties can contact API’s Jacqueline Roueche.
