BP implements Global DROPS assessments across 10 regions
To prevent incidents related to dropped objects, BP has implemented what it calls the Global DROPS Assessment, which currently covers 10 regions and 37 rigs. These assessments help to verify that contractors are monitoring and improving their dropped objects program and that corrective actions determined from lessons learned and investigations are implemented to minimize or eliminate exposure to DROPS hazards. In this video from the 2017 IADC Drilling HSE&T Europe Conference in Amsterdam on 28 September, Duston McConnell, Senior Global HSE Advisor for BP, explains how these assessments work and the potential expansion of the assessments beyond drilling contractors. Mr McConnell also discusses his work with the North American DROPS Chapter, which will hold its 2017 North America DROPS Forum on 9 November in Houston.
