Transocean’s Loftis honored with IADC Exemplary Service Award
Terry Loftis, a pioneer of the IADC Advanced Rig Technology (ART) Conference, was recognized with an IADC Exemplary Service Award for his contributions to the ART Drilling Control Systems Subcommittee. Mr Loftis, Director of Engineering for Transocean, received his award during the opening ceremonies of the IADC Advanced Rig Technology Conference, 17-18 Sept, Stavanger, Norway.
“Terry, we recognize you for your service as vice chairman-drilling control systems of the Advanced Rig Technology Committee and your support of IADC activities,” remarked IADC president/CEO Stephen Colville, presenting the award.
“I do love what I do,” Mr Loftis said. “I enjoy my job. I still enjoy getting up and coming to work every day. Thanks to Transocean for allowing me participate with the IADC.”
Mr Loftis joined Transocean in 1997, relocating to South Korea for shipyard construction of new-generation deepwater rigs. Throughout his career, Mr Loftis has been active in the company’s engineering development and new-build design programs. He cut his teeth on MODU construction as a consultant for Transocean in the mid-1980s working on semisubmersible design and construction. A decade later, Mr Loftis worked on design of deepwater drillships.
