Latshaw Drilling acquires Keen Energy Services

Keen’s Rig 29, which has been acquired by Latshaw Drilling, is a 1,000 hp SCR rig. Latshaw Drilling now has 41 rigs in its fleet.

Latshaw Drilling Company has acquired Keen Energy Services. Latshaw Drilling’s fleet is now composed of 41 rigs and 1,000 employees, making it the second largest privately owned drilling contractor in the US. Most of the rigs are late-model, diesel-electric units. Thirty-two rigs are equipped with top drives for horizontal drilling, and seven are AC rigs.

The acquisition makes Latshaw the second most active drilling contractor in the newly emerging Mississippi Lime unconventional play on the border between Oklahoma and Kansas. Latshaw operates rigs in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana and Arkansas, predominantly in the unconventional horizontal plays.

“We are extremely pleased to have acquired Keen as it has a great workforce, rig fleet and trucking assets,” Trent Latshaw, president and owner of Latshaw Drilling, said. “The combination of the two companies will be a much more diversified rig fleet enabling us to better serve both existing and future customers, while providing our employees with future advancement opportunities.”
